Stubbs set to be named as Hibernian manager

Alan Stubbs is set to be named as Hibernian manager by chief executive Leeann Dempster after an impressive interview. It is understood the former Everton player will be unveiled as early as Monday. Stubbs who is currently under 21 coach at Everton, will bring David Unsworth with him as his number two.

Stubbs has always had managerial ambitions and was even close to securing the Everton hotseat after Moyes departure for Manchester United but lost out to Roberto Martinez. (The Sun)

Rangers close in on Nerlinger

Rangers target Christian Nerlinger was last night a step closer to rejoining his old club, The Sun has reported that the German has already met with chief executive Graham Wallace over the role of chief football operations officer. Nerlinger told the Sun: “I don’t want to comment on what’s being said in Scotland. What I will say is my time at Rangers as a player was second only to my time spent at Bayern Munich. Rangers are a big club and I have nothing but good things to say about them.”

Wallace outlined in his business review of Rangers that he wanted a figure to be a link between the dressing room and board room. Nerlinger’s appointment could be as early as next week. (Sun)

However, Rangers fans have questioned the need for a chief football operations officer. Rangers’ Supporters Association chief Drew Robertson said: “I would question whether the appointment of a director of football is essential in our current position. It wasn’t that long ago we were supposedly offering players the chance to take 15 per cent wage cuts and now we’re looking to take someone on who isn’t likely to come cheap given his pedigree. A chief scout is needed so why not give Nerlinger that job? I have mixed views on this. I’m not so sure it’s been a role that’s been overly successful elsewhere.” (Daily Record)

Kilmarnock in big money bid for Goodwillie and Boyd

Kilmarnock are ready to spend big to partner David Goodwillie with Kris Boyd upfront next season. The rugby park side have opened negotiations with Goodwillie’s agent after the striker had his contract terminated at Blackburn rovers yesterday. The club have also offered a bank busting deal to Kris Boyd with a three year deal that would make him the highest paid player at the club in an attempt to keep him. Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnson said: “We’ve expressed interest in David Goodwillie. We’re keen to bring him to Kilmarnock to team up with Kris. We could have the same impact on his career as we did Kris.” (Daily Express)

Dundee double signing

Dundee last night brought their summer signing spree to eight players by snapping up Paul McGowan and Paul McGinn. Released St Mirren midfielder McGowan and out-of-contract Dumbarton right back McGinn have both signed two year deals with the Premiership new boys. Hartley said: “I’m delighted that both players have agreed to join.” (Various)
