No let up in betting rules

Stewart Regan, chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, has ruled out a relaxation of the laws that preclude footballers from betting on matches.

Regan argued that small-return lays, such as those that led to Rangers’ Ian Black receiving a ten-match ban last week, represent the “thin end of the wedge” in the wider context of corrupt gambling, and should be aggressively stamped out. (Scotsman)

Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell says Neil Lennon is staying put after some linked him with a move to Sunderland, saying it would take something truly special to lure him away.

The Sunderland role became vacant after manager Paolo di Canio was sacked following a poor start to the season. (Scotsman)

Stars will always go south

Lawwell also says teams like Celtic will continue to lose their big stars due to the bigger wages on offer in England.

Lawwell claims that the team had no choice but to sell Gary Hooper, Kelvin Wilson, and Victor Wanyama after they attracted the attention of clubs south of the border. (Daily Express)

Hearts in Stevenson boost

Ryan Stevenson could be back in action for Hearts in the next few weeks as he recovers from a knee injury.

It was previously feared that he could be out for at least 12 weeks after picking up the injury against Hibs at the start of last month. (Daily Express)
