Ryan Giggs in Celtic manager rumours

Ex-Manchester United player and assistant manager Ryan Giggs has emerged as one of many names being considered for the Celtic hot seat after Ronny Deila departs this summer.

The 42-year old is said to be hungry for an opportunity to manage a top team, but is widely seen as a potential successor to current Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

Giggs is said to be seeking clarification from United on his long-term managerial prospects before investigating any move away from Old Trafford. (Daily Mail)

David Moyes & Neil Lennon early tips for Celtic job

A clutch of former Celtic players have quickly emerged as contenders to replace Ronny Deila after his departure was confirmed by the club yesterday.

Former Everton, Manchester United and Real Sociedad manager David Moyes, who was a fringe first-team player with Celtic, is understood to also be interested in the vacancy at Aston Villa. He said: “I’m going to wait until summer time and make a decision in the summer time. There’s lots of clubs that will interest me and Celtic are a great club.”

Former players Roy Keane and Henrik Larsson, who are currently employed as assistant manager to the Ireland squad led by Martin O’Neill and manager of Swedish side Helsingborgs FC respectively, are already being seen as unlikely candidates. (Various)

Hibs target Dundee’s Paul McGinn

Hibernian are considering a bid for Dundee right-back Paul McGinn, despite manager Paul Hartley signalling his intention to retain the player.

The Edinburgh side are understood to be keen to reunite McGinn with his younger brother John.

Anthony Stokes: I wanted Celtic to win in cup semi

Hibernian striker Anthony Stokes has confirmed he wanted Celtic to win the Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final derby instead of Rangers, even though it meant he would have been unavailable to play against his parent club.

He said: “Now I am able to play in the final and I’m absolutely delighted but I always want Celtic to do well as I am always going to be a Celtic fan. But Celtic is none of my business at the moment, I am talking purely as a Celtic fan’s point of view, as a professional I’m only focused on Hibs.” The Scotsman

Majority shareholder Dermot Desmond has already asked ex-Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers about his interest in the Celtic job, it has been revealed.

Ross County aim for club record finish

Ross County manager Jim McIntyre is aiming high for fourth place finish in the Premiership and a Europa League spot despite tough fixtures ahead.

The Staggies are currently in sixth place with one point less than fourth-placed Motherwell. St Johnstone divide the two on goal difference.

Stephen Thompson gives up £100k wage

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has announced that he will no longer take his £100,000 wage from the club in a drive to save costs and restructure the club during their battle to avoid relegation.

Thompson added that he was “going nowhere” in response to rumours that he was paving the way for an exit from the troubled side.

He said: “I’m leading this club from the front and going nowhere. We have to get through this difficult period.” (Dundee Evening Telegraph)
