Rangers dubbed ‘2nd best in Scotland’

Nicky Law believes that Rangers are the second-best team in Scotland, and has said that the League One side could give Celtic a run for their money.

The summer signing said: “We have four, five or six internationals. If (Ally McCoist) can add one more then he has a real competitive group.

“I don’t think Rangers would have any problem doing well in the top flight.”

He added: “If there is to be a one-off match (against Celtic) then we could certainly give them a good game.” (Record)

Steven Fletcher injured again

Scotland’s star striker Steven Fletcher is set for another spell on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in action for Sunderland.

Fletcher, who had been out for five months with an ankle injury sustained on Scotland duty, appeared to dislocate his shoulder towards the end of his side’s 3-0 loss.

Sunderland manager Paolo di Canio revealed that the striker had been sent to hospital, describing the injury as “very bad”. (Scotsman)

Lennon: ‘Celtic shouldn’t be plucky losers’

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has said that results are the key for his side in this season’s Champions League - as he doesn’t want them to be lauded in defeat.

Lennon said: “I want them to win and get what they deserve out of games. There are going to be times, like Barca here last season, when you probably don’t deserve to win the game and you win it. But we didn’t get the luck on the night on Wednesday.”

Lennon also described next opponents Barcelona as “the best side of the last 25 years”. (Scotsman)

Armstrong ‘staying at Dundee United’

Dundee United midfielder Stuart Armstrong does not anticipate making a move to England any time soon - as he wants to get more playing time under his belt first.

The Scotland under-21 captain, who has been linked to a number of clubs down south, said: “I’m very comfortable staying here. Johnny (Russell) was playing first-team football for a number of years and earned his move to Derby.

“I just want to play week in week out and prove I’m good enough to play for Dundee United, let alone anyone else.” (Record)

Tommy Wright and Neil Lennon in ‘diving’ spat

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has hit out at Neil Lennon after the Celtic manager claimed that Steven MacLean dived during the closing stages of Celtic’s 2-1 win yesterday.

Lennon said: “It was never a penalty. Rubbish. Steven has a tendency to go down easily at times.”

Wright hit back at the claims. He said: “I have a golden rule where I don’t comment on other team’s players so maybe Neil shouldn’t comment on mine.” (Scotsman)

Danny Lennon ‘won’t quit St Mirren’

Buddies boss Danny Lennon has said that he will not step down as manager after his side fell to a 2-0 defeat to Hibernian yesterday.

St Mirren have now lost seven of their eight games this season, but Lennon insisted at his post-match press conference that he is still “the man for the job”.

“If a baker goes and makes a cake it is all about getting the ingredients right. And if he is not happy then he has got to change it.

“That is certainly something going into next week that we will look at.” (Sun)
