Rangers ‘should try and sign Terry’

FORMER Rangers and Scotland goalkeeper Andy Goram reckons the Ibrox club should try and land John Terry - in a push for Champions League football.

Goram tweeted (before April Fool’s Day): “Wouldn’t it be great if Rangers pushed the boat out and signed John Terry for next season to really push for Champions League... Just saying?”

Terry, who has spent 21 years at Chelsea, is also expected to have lucrative offers from MLS and Chinese clubs. (Various)

Wolves step up Cummings interest

WOLVES are preparing to test Hibernian’s resolve with a summer bid for striker Jason Cummings. The Scotland Under-21 striker, who scored a midweek double in a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland, has scored 20 goals this season for Hibs.

However, Wolves could face competition from a host of interested clubs including Fulham, Derby, Brighton and Cardiff all circling. (Daily Record)

Bitton ‘would love Arsenal move’

NIR Bitton has admitted he would relish the chance to land a move to Arsenal.

The Israeli midfielder has been previously linked with the Gunners, as well as a number of top clubs across Europe.

But Bitton revealed he would reject a move to what he called lower English Premier League sides. (Scottish Sun)

Stubbs ‘not interested in selling McGinn’

HIBS head coach Alan Stubbs has insisted he is not interested in selling John McGinn, despite the midfielder’s value likely having soared after he was named man of the match on his Scotland debut.

RANGERS manager Mark Warburton believes the team he has put together this season will merit a special place alongside the great sides of the team’s oldco past.

He said: “We’ve spoken to the players about those pictures on the walls and how that has to be a target for them. Now is their chance to make some history, to be the team that takes Rangers back to the top flight.”

SPFL and Celtic ‘try to block new fan involvement laws’

THE SPFL and Celtic tried to dissuade the introduction of new laws that would give Scottish football fans a greater say in the running of their clubs, according to The Times. The Parkhead club published a seven-page response to the Scottish Government as they attempted to block new proposals over fan involvement.

The Scottish Government backed the Community Empowerment Bill, which gave fans the right to buy, the right to bid and right to be involved in the running of clubs. Celtic stated that the matter was for “the clubs and football authorities”, while also claiming the right to bid “would not produce any benefit”. (The Scotsman)

Celtic eye West Ham star

are paying close attention to West Ham left-back Stephen Hendrie, who may be a possible replacement if Kieran Tierney moves away from the club during the summer.

Hendrie moved to Upton Park last summer from Hamilton following a failed Celtic bid, with West Ham now “willing to sell” the 21 year-old. (The Scottish Sun)

Inverness Caley to bid for Partick’s Stuart Bannigan

Caley Thistle manager John Hughes has reportedly made a move for the 23 year-old former Scotland under-21 international, with Partick boss Alan Archibald already anticipating losing the player.

Bannigan is expected to miss the rest of this season with a knee injury. Inverness have also been linked with Steven Lawless and Abdul Osman, who are both out of contract in the summer.

Sviatchenko admits Denmark team-mates “blown away” by Tierney

CELTIC defender Erik Sviatchenko has said his team mates were “blown away” by the 45-minute debut of teenage left-back Kieran Tierney on Tuesday night.

He added: “I saw his first half from the bench and lots of my Denmark team-mates said, ‘This guy is really good’.

“It’s good for Celtic and it’s good for Scotland as well that we have this young lad coming through and playing so well. He has taken to it like he is 30 years old. It’s unbelievable.” (The Scottish Sun)

Hearts ‘have improved since last Celtic trip,’ says Neilson

Hearts head coach Robbie Neilson has warned Celtic his team have improved since claiming a point on their previous trip to Parkhead. Neilson’s side lost 3-0 to St Johnstone in their most recent game but that followed a run of four consecutive wins and clean sheets.

“We have progressed recently. The players that have come in have more experience of the Scottish game, the younger players have more experience of playing first-team football, so I think we are in a better position than we were the last time”, Neilson said.

Aitken praises Christian Nade after award

DUMBARTON manager Stephen Aitken has praised striker Christian Nade after he was named Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month for March.

Nade joined the club from Hamilton in January and has already scored a hat-trick against Alloa and a goal against Hibs. Aitken stressed that the club would like to keep the Frenchman with talks beginning at the end of the season. (Evening Times)

Ex-Chelsea and Dundee United star dies

FORMER Chelsea and Dundee United midfielder Ian Britton has died aged 61 following a long illness. The Dundee-born player moved to Chelsea in 1972 and after 289 appearances, returned home in 1982.

He helped the club win their only Scottish top flight title before moving on to Arbroath, Blackpool and finally Burnley in the late 1980s. (Sky Sports)

St Mirren’s new clubhouse flooded out

ST Mirren’s new £70k supporters’ hub has been ruined by floodwater from a burst tap only days before it was set to open.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage has been caused and the building’s grand opening, set for tomorrow’s game against Hibernian, has been postponed.

The team are aiming to have a new floor in place by the middle of April. (Daily Record)
