Ronny Deila challenges Rangers to show how good they are

Ronny Deila has dismissed the notion that tomorrow’s 
Scottish Cup semi-final is a game he must win to preserve his job as Celtic manager, insisting there is just as much pressure on Rangers to live up to the plaudits they have received this season.

“It’s not like we are playing a small team, you know,” said the Norwegian. “We are playing
the second biggest. You should expect them to be on a level with Aberdeen, Hearts and those clubs.

“They can be that good and this is going to be their test to show that they are. They have the second highest budget. Now it is the time for them to show how good they are.

“Everyone wants to play us up as big, big favourites but the truth is that Rangers are top of their league, they have won the Championship.

“It is easy to say that it looks like we are going to play Stromsgodset or something. That’s not right. We are playing a big club here.” (Scotsman)

Mark Warburton says Martyn Waghorn definitely won’t face Celtic

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has emphatically ruled out the notion of rushing his top scorer Martyn Waghorn back into action for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic.

“He knocked on my door this morning and asked ‘Any chance?’” said Warburton. “He is desperate to play. But just imagine if you haven’t trained for seven weeks – he’s just not ready yet and he knows it.

“It’s a great attitude from Waggy and he knows I’ll use him when he’s fit and well. He’s not far away, he’ll start training with us next week, so he will hopefully be available for Alloa next weekend. But

he won’t be involved in the semi-final.” (Scotsman)

Mark Warburton turns to Walter Smith for advice on how to beat Celtic

Mark Warburton has urged his players to rise to the occasion, saying he has turned to people like John Greig and Walter Smith for advice on how to beat their Glasgow rivals. He said: “I’m very fortunate to have access to people like John Greig and Walter Smith, who have been there and done it.

“They have a wealth of experience and you have to respect that. It’s fantastic. Walter Smith has been outstanding.

“He comes in after games and it’s great to talk with him and hear his views on the game, individuals and passages of play.

“There are different ideas there and it is a fantastic benefit to be able to tap into someone such as Walter” (Daily Record)

Rangers, Hibernian and Dundee United could be set to lose their club crests

Three of this weekend’s four Scottish Cup semi-finalists could be set to face a battle to keep their club badges after it was revealed they face a legal battle to keep them.

An old law from the 16th Century law gave the Court of the Lord Lyon responsibility for prosecuting anyone who uses unauthorised arms.

Teams like Rangers, whose club badge features a Lion Rampant, while Dundee United face the same problem. Hibs are under threat due to their use of a coat of Arms-style depiction of a castle on top of a shield.

And they aren’t the only ones teams like Ayr United, Dundee and St Johnstone are also being looked at. (Daily Record)
