Odegaard ‘set to join Getafe’

MARTIN Odegaard looks likely to be farmed out to Getafe on loan next season, scuppering Celtic’s chances of taking the Norwegian starlet on loan.

Real Madrid have made no secret of their wish to get Odegaard more game time next season, and Ronny Deila had an outside chance of a reunion with the former Stromsgodset midfielder.

However, Real bosses are keen that Odegaard signs for Getafe in order to continue settling into life in Madrid. (Daily Mail)

Matthews set for Sunderland switch

Celtic full-back Adam Matthews looks to be on his way out of Parkhead after Sunderland last night agreed a fee with the Scottish champions for the Welsh international.

If personal terms can be sorted out, the 23-year-old will move to Wearside to link up with former Rangers manager Dick Advocaat, who kept Sunderland in the Premier League last season after a titanic battle against relegation.

Matthews joined Celtic from Cardiff City in July 2011 and has one year remaining on his contract. (The Scotsman)

United reject second Celtic bid for Ciftci

DUNDEE United have rejected a second bid for Nadir Ciftci from Celtic, with reports the Hoops bumped up their offer to just over £1 million.

But Wigan - who Ciftci turned down a move to - are believed to have offered more than £1.5 million, with Celtic still to match that bid. (Daily Record)

Rangers stars ‘snubbed Paul Murray party’

THE Rangers squad - bar two players - snubbed an end-of-season reception after their play-off capitulation at the hands of Motherwell, it has been revealed.

Goalies Steve Simonsen and Lee Robinson were the only two to make an appearance at the Ibrox bash, with the rest of the players collecting their cars and then leaving, according to reports.

The reception - thought to have been laid on by Paul Murray - had been planned to thank the squad for their efforts.

A source told The Sun: “After the second leg of the play off final against Motherwell all of the players were invited to a reception in the Thornton Suite.

“It was thought they could have said their farewells to the staff and Paul Murray, who had organised the get together, planned to thank them personally for their efforts and wish those who were leaving the best of luck in the future.” (Scottish Sun)

Stubbs runs rule over Swiss ‘keeper Sascha Studer

Hibs are on the trail of Swiss star Sascha Studer as head coach Alan Stubbs seeks to add a second goalkeeper to his squad after Mark Oxley signed a two-year deal with the Capital club.

Studer has been training at East Mains this week after being released by English League Two side Mansfield Town to allow Stubbs and his backroom staff to assess the 6ft 3in stopper. (Evening News)

Hearts duo ponder Tynecastle exit

DALE CARRICK and Scott Gallacher did not join their Hearts colleagues for this week’s pre-season trip to Ireland as they are considering leaving the club in search of more regular game time.

The pair were notable absentees from the 24-player party that flew to Dublin on Wednesday morning, with both remaining in Scotland to ponder their next move after falling down the pecking order at Tynecastle.

Carrick is understood to be close to joining Kilmarnock, although Falkirk are also keen to sign the striker and are monitoring his situation. (Evening News)

Jaroslaw Fojut brands Dundee a ‘sh*t city’

HEARTS new boy Blazej Augustyn has revealed he was sold on a move to Scotland by former Dundee United stopper Jaroslaw Fojut - who told him Edinburgh ‘wasn’t a sh*t city like Dundee’.

Fojut recently left Tannadice with reports the former Śląsk Wrocław defender was homesick.

He became something of a cult hero after a late goal that knocked rivals Dundee out of the League Cup. (Evening Telegraph)

Diego Simeone is a ‘madman’ says Augustyn

NEW Hearts defender Blazej Augustyn has opened up on his time with former Argentina international Diego Simeone.

The pair crossed paths at Catania, with Augustyn describing the Atletico Madrid boss as a ‘madman’.

“I worked with Diego Simeone and I played a few games. He is a madman and I cannot speak about him too much because I didn’t like him,” he said.

“His training as a coach and the way he set the team up were very good but I did not like other things about him. (The Scotsman)

Janko reveals Giggs advice

CELTIC fans expecting new signing Saidy Janko to be a marauding full-back who will add healthy competition to the defence will be pleasantly surprised to learn that the Swiss teenager has been primed as a flying winger by the legendary Ryan Giggs.

The 19-year-old learned from the Welsh master during his two years with Manchester United after being plucked from FC Zurich, where he had been spotted playing a starring role in a youth tournament.

Janko said: “It is special to get advice from Ryan Giggs. We are different kinds of players. He knew I was not the same as him so he told me what I should do. He was very good. He always spoke with the young players when we first got involved.” (The Scotsman)
