Griffiths no chance of appeal

Celtic have no chance of overturning the yellow card shown to Leigh Griffiths in their match against Linfield. The striker was booked for time-wasting after showing the referee a glass bottle that had been thrown at him while he tried to take a corner. Celtic were hoping to appeal the decision but yellow cards can only be overturned in cases of mistaken identity. (Scottish Sun)

Craig Whyte could receive a £5m payout from the oldco Rangers liquidation pot. The ex-Ibrox owner previously made a bid to gain the funds but was rejected by BDO on the grounds that he was facing a potential conviction for fraud. Having been cleared of those charges, Whyte is looking to launch a fresh attempt. It would mean HMRC, who won the Big Tax Case just 11 days ago, will likely recoup none of the money owed as they are an unsecured creditor. (Sunday Herald)

Ferguson to Airdrie

Barry Ferguson could make a quick return to football management after emerging as the leading contender to take over at Airdrieonians, despite struggling in his first managerial gig at Clyde. The ex-Rangers captain resigned from Broadwood towards the end of last season after the team became embroiled in a relegation battle. Airdrie are now set to hand him a reprieve, and will likely partner Ferguson with former East Kilbride boss Martin Lauchlan. (Daily Record)

Dembele should stay

Former Aston Villa and Manchester United striker Dion Dublin believes Moussa Dembele should stay with Celtic for another season. The 21-year-old Frenchman has attracted interest from clubs around Europe, and while Dublin understands why Celtic would wish to sell if they receive an incredible offer for the player, he believes it’d be in everyone’s best interest if the striker stayed for another 12 months. McInnes reckons break was responsible

Derek McInnes believes his team were not ready to face Siroki Brijeg in the Europa League because the players were still rusty after their summer break - and the best remedy would be to bin the players’ holidays in future. Aberdeen’s squad had just three-and-a-half weeks off after the Scottish Cup final and were only able to draw 1-1 with the side from Bosnia and Herzegovina. (Sunday Post)

Sinclair urges Caulker to sign

Scott Sinclair has urged Steven Caulker to follow his lead and revitalise his career by moving to Celtic. The Scottish champions are ready to consider a bid for former Tottenham and England defender Caulker after manager Brendan Rodgers confirmed earlier this week he had spoken to the 25-year-old who has been deeply troubled by alcohol and gambling problems. Benyu u-turn

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed he was looking to send youngster Kundai Benyu out on loan this season - until he saw his performance against Lyon. Celtic played the French champions in a friendly at Parkhead. Even though the hosts lost 4-0, young Benyu stood out from the crowd and was named his team’s man of the match. Now Rodgers wants to have a closer look at the player over the next six months rather than loaning the 19-year-old to another club. (Daily Record)

• Celtic fan group The Green Bridge were absent from the game against Lyon due to an “internal/communication issue” with the club, according to Celtic’s supporter liaison officer. (Scottish Sun)
