Kelvin Wilson could be the latest Celtic star on his way out of Parkhead, after his old club Nottingham Forest made a £1.5m bid for the defender.

Wilson left the City Ground on a free transfer two years ago, and has since made 69 appearances for Neil Lennon’s side. His contract expires at the end of the coming season. (Nottingham Post)

Sandaza incident ‘sad chapter’ for McCoist

Francisco Sandaza’s exit from Rangers should have been handled better by all sides - that’s according to Rangers manager Ally McCoist.

Sandaza was fired by former chief executive Charles Green after being duped by a hoax caller posing as an agent. Sandaza made remarks about his wages and desire to move on from the club in a call which was later posted online.

McCoist said: “It was a sad chapter for everybody. I don’t think anyone covered themselves in any glory through the whole situation.

“Fran has always been a smashing lad and he certainly goes with myself and my staff’s best wishes.” (Sun)

‘Get Defoe’, Hartson tells Celtic

Former Celtic striker John Hartson believes the club should look to sign Tottenham’s Jermain Defoe, as he believes the champions need a striker who can get goals and excite fans.

In his column in the Sun, the Welshman said: “Charlie Austin and Kevin Doyle won’t put bums on seats at Parkhead.

“Neil Lennon needs to be given enough money to lure to the club someone who will be able to guarantee goals and season ticket sales.

“Someone like Jermain Defoe.

“He’s the kind of goalscorer I’d love to see being signed by my old club and if you ask me he’s not an unrealistic target for Lenny.” (Sun)

Celtic: ‘There was no Wanyama to Cardiff deal’

Neil Lennon has hit back at Cardiff owner Vincent Tan, after the Malaysian businessman claimed that Celtic had reneged on a £10m deal for Victor Wanyama.

Lennon said that Cardiff’s offer was ‘nowhere near’ the eventual £12m fee that Celtic eventually received for the Kenyan midfielder. He added: “The only confirmed offer we had was from Southampton and it was considerably more than the figure Cardiff were talking about.

“It’s frustrating to see him trying to give us a bad name in this deal because we acted as we always do, with the greatest professionalism and dignity towards ourselves and any other club.”

Rangers shares hold at end of dramatic week

Shares in Rangers avoided a further fall in London trading yesterday, as a dramatic week for the stock came to a close.

Shares had begun the week at 51.5p, but a large sell-off sent the price to 42.5p on Wednesday. The price dropped again to 42p by the end of trading on Thursday, but held at 42p on Friday despite 1.6m shares changing hands in the course of the day. (Herald)

European draws: ‘Bangura shouldn’t play’, Saints to inspire ‘Well, Hibs tie ‘not over’

• Celtic’s Mohamed Bangura should not play for loan club Elfsborg if the sides meet in the Champions League, according to Neil Lennon.

Lennon said: “According to UEFA we can’t enforce any ruling for him not to play

“Personally, I feel it would be very difficult for Mohamed to play. If he looked at it in the cold light of day he would not play.

• Motherwell boss Stuart McCall believes his side will take inspiration from the Europa League heroics of St Johnstone when they take on Russian side Kuban Krasnodar.

The Saints grabbed a 1-0 win away to Norwegian league leaders Rosenborg on Thursday, and McCall praised the Perth side’s achievements.

McCall said: “It was fantastic, St Johnstone with a positive attitude and getting a great result.

“We’ve got to aim to progress into the next round. We will just be positive and do the best we possibly can.” (BBC)

• Hibs goalkeeper Ben Williams insists his side can make their date with Swansea City, despite facing a 2-0 deficit in their return leg against Malmo.

Williams said: “We can go into the second leg knowing it’s far from over. It’s still within our reach.
