Ronny Deila says a fee has been agreed for John Guidetti

Ronny Deila has revealed Celtic have a fee agreed with Manchester City to land John Guidetti in January – if they can persuade him to sign.

And the Norwegian hopes Scott Brown’s decision to pen a long-term deal will persuade the striker to stay for glory rather than leave for cash.

On-loan Guidetti’s form has alerted a host of clubs in England and Europe to his availability as a free agent next summer when his City

Contract expires. He said: “With every player we bring in on loan we try to have an option to buy.

“That’s why we know what it will cost. It could be harder at the end of the season. This decision has to be taken before that.

“He should stay here. He will develop and achieve big things. This is the right club for him, especially at the age he is now.”

Asked if they had the same arrangement in place with fellow City loan star Jason Denayer, though, Deila said: “No.” (Record)

Ronny Deila unhappy by performance

Celtic may have extended their unbeaten run to eight games after beating Dundee 2-1 yesterday, but Ronny Deila was still displeased with his side’s performance.

The Bhoys manager felt that they had fallen short of recent standards, despite picking up the three points, and was concerned with a number of areas of their game.

“From the game, I take the three points and the second goal was fantastic,” Deila said to Sky Sports.

“In a negative way, we weren’t together in the pressing, not compact enough in the first half.” (Sky Sports)

Ally McCoist left raging by lack of discipline

Ally McCoist turned on his ill-disciplined players yesterday after Rangers lost more title ground with a 2-0 defeat at Tynecastle. The Rangers manager told Stevie Smith, who was sent off on 21 minutes, that he’d let his team mates down. And McCoist admitted the shock decision to substitute Kenny Miller was in part, down to the fear that he may also have been sent off if he had stayed on. McCoist said: “I’m really disappointed and feel Steven has let his team mates down. It puts us to 10 men against a team playing well. You’re up against it.” (Mail on Sunday)

Jon Daly admits Championship title worries

Rangers striker Jon Daly has admitted that winning the Scottish Championship is going to be a tough ask after their defeat to Hearts yesterday.

The Light Blues are now nine points behind the league leaders and Daly admits that the title is Hearts to lose.

“It’s going to be tough,” Daly admitted to the Scotsman. “It’s out of our hands now, we’ve got to play Hearts twice before the end of the season, but even if we were to win all of our games, including those, we still need them to drop points elsewhere.” (Scotsman)

Craig Whyte considered buying Motherwell before Rangers

Fugitive Craig Whyte once considered buying Motherwell, the Record has reported.

The disgraced businessman spoke of a possible takeover bid for the club with those close to him – before switching his attention to Rangers.

Whyte, 43, is wanted on two separate warrants issued by British courts last week.

A spokesman for Whyte claimed last week that the fraud suspect – who was a Motherwell fan – intended to return to the UK to help police with inquiries.

But a source close to his family told us: “We’ve seen reports that he says he’ll come back and give himself up but it would be a

Surprise if he did that. He has never faced up to trouble before.”

They described Whyte’s whole involvement with Rangers as “astonishing, bizarre and unbelievable”, adding: “He did talk in the past about buying Motherwell.

“But he got involved with Rangers instead – and that was unbelievable. It was very unlike him – the most stupid thing he has ever done.” (Record)

Mark Wotte hits back at critics

Mark Wotte has hit back at criticism from people who were unhappy by his tenure by revealing he was only prepared to listen to one person and that was Darren Fletcher, He said: “Darren sent me a fantastic text, told me I’d done a great job and it’ll only be after a couple of years that people will see the impact. A lot of people commented who I don’t think knew what was going on. The good thing about Darren was that he was interested in seeing what was going on and getting Scotland to a higher level.” With regards to Maurice Malpas’ comments, Wotte was taciturn, he added: “Maybe Maurice was offended, I don’t know. Tommy Wright praises James McFadden

Tommy Wright praised James McFadden after the striker scored in first goal for St Johnstone in the 2-1 win over Ross County.

McFadden netted his first goal for the Perth club since joining last month and was influential throughout as the home side clung on for the three Scottish Premiership points.

Wright said: “James was excellent, I’m really pleased. I’m pleased for him because he’s working really hard. He’s been a big influence off the pitch; he’s been a big influence since he came through the door because he gave everybody a lift. He’s a quality player and he’s getting fitter - in terms of match fitness, because he had a good level of fitness when he came and we didn’t think it was that much of a risk.

“I don’t tell James how to play, I just tell him where I want him to play and he goes and plays. His quality was evident today.” (STV.com)
