County in McFadden move

Ross County are set to make a bold move for Scotland hero James McFadden.

Boss Derek Adams is to make a summer move for the Motherwell man, who scored twice yesterday against Inverness.

McFadden’s short-term deal will be up at the end of the season, and it is thought that the prospect of playing for his former Motherwell team-mate Adams could appeal. (Mail on Sunday)

Longmuir talks down rebellion

Under-fire chief executive David Longmuir says he is still the right man to lead the Scottish Football League, despite calls from a rebel faction of clubs for a vote of no confidence in the current leadership.

But Longmuir played down the situation, saying: “I don’t believe this is a vote of no confidence. I see it as a moment of frustration for certain clubs. They were enticed by a package of change from the SPL, which was taken away by the people who offered it in the first place.

“So I don’t take it personally. I don’t see it as a slight on my ability to run the league.” (The Sun)

Rangers look to USA

Rangers could be set to his the States, for a glamour friendly against the New York Red Bulls this summer.

With Ally McCoist looking across the pond for matches, one which holds pull is the New York side, whose sporting director is none other than Andy Roxburgh.

McCoist said: “We have agents trying to organise games in America and are down the line with it.

We will look at games against all types of opposition and may try to meet up with Andy Roxburgh at New York Red Bulls. It would be great to see him.” (Sunday Post)

Wilson reveals Griffiths is big threat

Celtic defender Kelvin Wilson has revealed the three biggest strike threats of the year, as he told of the players who cause SPL defences the most trouble.

Hibs hero Leigh Griffiths, along with St Johnstone pair Gregory Tade and Nigel Hasselbaink are the most dangerous men near the goalmouth, according to Wilson.

And with Hibs set to face Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final in a few weeks, Wilson will be hoping to contain on-loan Griffiths.

“Leigh Griffiths is a good player, he’s technically good. He’s more lightweight, but I’m very surprised he’s not playing at Wolves or been involved at some point.

“I don’t know why he’s not been playing there, but he could’ve been a breath of fresh air for Wolves. He’s technically good and works his socks off.” (The Sun)

Thompson not fussed by Brown comments

St Mirren striker Stevie Thompson says he isn’t fazed by Dundee boss John Brown’s mind games amid the two sides’ relegation battle.

Outspoken Brown has been quite vocal of late, claiming that St Mirren had bottled it as his side closed the gap between the two clubs to just eight points.

However, Thompson said: “It’s still in our hands but I will watch Dundee’s game against Aberdeen. If Dundee lose, great, but we want to do this ourselves.
