Forrester ‘should have been sent off’ says ex-ref

FORMER top flight referee Charlie Richmond said Rangers midfielder Harry Forrester should have been sent off against Dundee.

Forrester was substituted after a series of challenges left him with a yellow card, and walking a tightrope. Ex-Celtic striker Chris Sutton accused match referee Craig Thomson of ‘bottling’ the decision to send him off.

But Richmond said: “Craig is not the kind of man to bottle it. He’s officiated in high-profile games in Scotland and in Europe. He can handle the heat of a Rangers game. But there’s no doubt for me he made the wrong call at Dens Park on Saturday. Having watched the incidents a few times it’s pretty clear Forrester should have been sent packing.” (Daily Record)

Gers face fight with Wigan to land Garner

RANGERS are facing competition from Wigan to land Preston North End striker Joe Garner, according to reports.

The Ibrox side are favourites to land the 28-year-old forward but Wigan are known to be keen on the former England Under-19 international.

But talks are set to take place with Rangers early this week and Garner could be Mark Warburton’s tenth summer signing. (Various)

Rodgers ‘would have preferred Partick to Inter’

CELTIC manager Bredndan Rodgers has admitted he would have preferred to have taken on Partick Thistle in the league rather than face Inter Milan in a glamour friendly in Limerick.

Rodgers saw a largely second-string side defeated 2-0, and although he welcomed the boost for the Hoops’ European exploits, he added: “My own feeling is I don’t think we should be playing a friendly.

“The league has started, we should be playing competitive football. Commercially it’s great, for the fans it’s great. But, from a football perspective, I’d rather be playing a competition.” (CQN)

The towering 17-year-old, who stands at 6ft 6in, is the younger brother of Hearts defender John, and was linked with a move to the Potters back in June.

But it looks as though the English Premier League side could land the Aberdeen-born stopper before the transfer window slams shut. (Scottish Sun)

Wallace wants to end career at Rangers and go on to manage Ibrox side

LEE Wallace has admitted he would love to see out his career at Ibrox and go on to manage Rangers.

The 29-year-old, who signed a new three-year deal earlier this summer, said: “I hopefully see myself being here for the rest of my career and staying longer than the three years I’m contracted to just now.”

And asked if managing Rangers was among his ambitions, Wallace added: “Absolutely, of course. It’s a top job.” (Scottish Sun)

Magennis ‘couldn’t turn down’ Charlton switch

CHARLTON Athletic new boy Josh Magennis has admitted that joining the Addicks was a chance he ‘couldn’t really turn down’.

The Northern Irish striker, who made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Northampton Town at the weekend, said: “It was a chance I couldn’t really turn down, with the status of the club. It was a no-brainer really.” (BBC Sport)

Fans react to Schweinsteiger rumours

SCOTTISH football fans had plenty to say about the rumours over the weekend linking World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger with a move to Parkhead.

Calum Macleod said: “Surely.. SURELY Bastian Schweinsteiger to Celtic is just another “RVP to Rangers”...?!?!” while another fan added: “Even if this story is b***** with no truth whatsoever, it shows the status of Celtic to be linked to Bastian.”

But other fans felt Schweinsteiger’s ‘reputation is greater than his ability’ while others said there was ‘absolutely no chance’ of such a transfer happening. (Various)
