Rangers keen on Fanni

RANGERS have been linked with former French international defender Rod Fanni.

The 34-year-old right back, who spent time with Charlton last season, is currently with Qatari side Al-Arabi SC and can count Marseille, Nice and Rennes amongst his former clubs.

Mark Warburton is known to be on the lookout for at least one more defender, and Fanni could fit the bill, although former club Marseille are monitoring the situation. (Daily Record)

Turks in for Tavernier

RANGERS could face a fight to hold on to defender James Tavernier, with Trabzonspor reportedly set to reignite their interest in the ex-Wigan player.

The Turkish Super Lig side had reportedly been keen on the 24-year-old but dropped their interest last week.

However, Trabzonspor lost Luis Pedro Cavanda to Galatasaray and could test Rangers’ resolve with a bid for Tavernier, who is under contract at Ibrox until the end of the 2018/19 season. (Diyarbakir Soz)

Lennon blasts cup flops

NEIL Lennon has admitted he is having doubts over his Hibs squad after the Easter Road side were dumped out of the Betfred Cup by Queen of the South.

Second-half goals from ex-Hibee Stephen Dobbie, Grant Anderson and Lyndon Dykes came after Paul Hanlon had given the home side the lead.

Lennon said: “Some players who have been excellent for us were off the boil a little bit. Does it pose questions about certain players going forward? Yeah. We missed simple chances. The game should have been out of sight.” (Scottish Sun).

Hearts demand SFA proof over Walker dive

HEARTS will defend Jamie Walker against a charge of cheating and a possible two-match ban with Robbie Neilson calling on the SFA to produce proof to substantiate their claims that Walker took a dive in the match against Celtic.

Club representatives will attend a hearing at Hampden in a bid to have the indictment quashed, with Neilson reiterating his player’s statement that there was contact between himself and Kieran Tierney before a penalty was awarded.

Walker was branded a cheat by Hoops captain Scott Brown, but Neilson said: “If you go for a tackle in the box, miss the ball and there is any contact then the player’s momentum is broken and he has to go down - it’s a penalty.” (The Scotsman)

Rogic extends Celtic deal

TOM Rogic has agreed a new three-year deal at Celtic, citing the influence of Brendan Rodgers as one of the key factors in him agreeing the extension.

The Australian star will now be with the Hoops until 2019, and said: “The manager has had a very positive impact on the club so far and I’m sure we will continue to build on that.

“To have my future sorted is great. I still feel I have a lot to give and I know that, under [Rodgers] I can develop, progress and contribute to the team’s success.” (The Scotsman)

Warburton rules out Armstrong move

MARK Warburton has ruled out a move for Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong, but remains keen on bringing in another striker.

Although the Rangers boss wants to have a new player in by this weekend, it won’t be the Magpies youngster, who is reportedly keen on proving himself at St James Park.

Warburton said: “[Armstrong] is a very talented player but he’s not coming to Rangers. I know how well he did at Coventry but there’s no truth in that rumour.” (Daily Record)

Irvine to make Brewers bow

JACKSON Irvine will make his competitive debut for Burton Albion in their EFL Cup clash with Bury at the Pirelli Stadium tonight.

The Australian, who joined for a record fee, impressed in pre-season for Nigel Clough’s men and will likely start in the cup tie. (Burton Mail)

Night of shocks in Betfred Cup

THERE was no shortage of shocks in last night’s Betfred Cup ties, with Alloa defeating Inverness Caledonian Thistle and a hat-trick from Cammy Smith handing Dundee United victory over Partick Thistle.

Queen of the South came from a goal down to defeat Hibernian 3-1 while Jai Quitongo fired Morton to a 2-1 win over Hamilton Accies.

At Ibrox, Clint Hill grabbed a double as Rangers put five past 10-man Peterhead, with Joe Dodoo also on target.
