OH, Hearts fans. Any excuse to remind Hibees of THAT day at Hampden in May 2012, eh?

From posing with Rod Petrie and Pat Fenlon, to Ryan McGowan not-so-subtly throwing up the 5-1 gesture during a World Cup, it’s a stunt that will never get old as far as Jambos are concerned.

Step forward Eilidh Child, who put in a blistering performance at Hampden last night to take silver in the 400m hurdles but still had enough left in her for a quick ‘5-1’ hand symbol after the race.

While Hibees might have been spluttering at Eilidh’s cheek, her lap of honour set to the music of Easter Road regulars The Proclaimers may have afforded some Hibs fans a wry smile.

Lennon: Celtic defeat was on the cards

FORMER Celtic boss Neil Lennon has pointed to a lack of time and money as part of the reason behind the Hoops’ Warsaw nightmare.

Speaking yesterday, Lennon said that although the defeat was not ‘inevitable’, there was every chance it could happen in the circumstances.

He said: “There has been no investment at the minute in the team and Ronny Deila really hasn’t had much time to bed himself in with John Collins and get to know the players.

“Those qualifiers are always really tricky and it took me a year or two. I remember Gordon Strachan in his first game losing 5-0 to Artmedia in Bratislava.

“It’s going to take time, there’s always a transitional period at a club like Celtic.” (The Scotsman)

‘Man up’, Johansen tells Celtic team mates

STEFAN Johansen has instructed his Celtic team mates to ‘man up’ after their 4-1 defeat in Poland.

The midfielder believes Celtic can still qualify but has insisted his tea mates need to believe the same.

He added: “When you go down to ten men and are staying in the game at 2-1, it’s almost an okay result in the circumstances.

“But that was the time to stick together and keep that scoreline until the end of the match.

“We know qualifying for the group stages of the Champions League is tough.

“We still have a chance and I feel we are good enough on a better day than Warsaw to make it through to the next round.” (The Sun)

Fans rage at Griffiths for trainers pic

ANGRY Celtic fans blasted striker Leigh Griffiths yesterday - after the former Hibs star posted a photo on Instagram of his £850 trainers.

‘Sparky’ posted the snap of the Christian Louboutin shoes to his account with the caption ‘It’s a loub kinda day [sic]’.

But miffed fans hit out at the 23-year-old, with some fans questioning his attitude the day after the heavy defeat by Legia.

Alternative View fanzine editor Matt McGlone tweeted: “Leigh Griffiths posts a pic of his new shoes the day after a humiliating defeat, eh why? Fans hurting big time today.”

Griffiths has since removed the picture from his account.

Dons can pull off miracle - McInnes

DEREK McInnes is adamant that Aberdeen’s Euro dream is not over yet.

Goals from David Zurutuza and Sergio Canales gave Real Sociedad a 2-0 win at the Anoeta Stadium, but McInnes reckons the Dons can cause an upset at Pittodrie next week.

He said: “We are aware of the importance of an away goal, but we have seen games where they can quickly turn.

“We will have tremendous support at Pittodrie on Thursday and it is not beyond us to certainly ask more questions of them.

“I know how competitive our boys are and how much they want to win. We’ll see that type of performance next Thursday - and you never know.” (Various)

Wright blasts Saints after Spartak blow

TOMMY Wright slammed his lacklustre St Johnstone side after they needed a late goal to keep their Europa League tie with Spartak Trnava alive.

Dave Mackay’s injury-time strike threw Saints a lifeline but Wright was fuming after a brace from Ivan Schranz put Trnava in charge.

He said: “We didn’t compete in the first half. We made it too easy for them.

“You can’t play for ten or 15 minutes at the start of the second half then five minutes at the end and expect to beat teams like that.”

The McDiarmid Park side desperately missed injured striker Stevie May, with Wright still uncertain if he’ll make the return leg in Slovakia.

“It’s too early to say if he’s going to be back next week. We will know more in the next 24 to 48 hours,” Wright explained. (The Sun)
