Green fires first shot in new war of words

Charles Green has fired his first shot in the civil war at Ibrox. The Yorkshireman, speaking to the Sun said that Ally McCoist must win the league and the cup this year.

Green said: “He (McCoist) knows he has to win the league, but in my opinion, has to win the cup as well.

“If he doesn’t do that he has a problem.”

Green also said that if he was still in charge at Rangers he wouldn’t have allowed McCoist to sign the amount of players he has this summer. (The Sun)

On the day that Charles Green made a surprise return to Rangers, another power struggle broke out at Ibrox as it emerged that a general meeting has been called with the aim of ousting three members of the present board.

Two other proposals propose the appointment as directors of Paul Murray - formerly the central figure in the Blue Knights consortium which wanted to take over the club last year - and Frank Blin.

Barry Ferguson, speaking in the Daily Record, tells of his dismay at the situation at his boyhood club Rangers. The former Gers skipper believes the club should be in the hands of true Rangers fans, and the current board at Ibrox have a different set of values to those that he grew up with.

Ally McCoist: Why always us?

Ally McCoist finds it hard to understand why his own club were fined £50,000while Hearts and Dunfermline were given different sanctions.

“I don’t understand it,” he said yesterday. “Am I missing something? Are we the only ones who have been fined £50,000? If that’s the case then it does seem a little bit strange. So maybe we’ll get a cheque back from the SFA for £50,000 in the next couple of weeks. I would echo Craig’s views and look for an explanation. We’ve said all along, all we asked is to be treated fairly and the same as everybody else. (The Scotsman)

Neil Lennon wants two more strikers

Neil Lennon has his eye on two more signings before the transfer window shuts. The Celtic boss has targeted his forward line as the key area in need of improvement.

Lennon said: “We’re working away but probably nothing will materialise until after the game on Wednesday I would imagine.

“We’re looking into bringing in a couple of good quality strikers if we can.”

The SPFL have drawn up a contingency plan in case Hearts are unable to fulfil their Scottish Premiership fixtures reports the Daily Mail.
