Green shown red card

Rangers owner Charles Green has come under fire for using racist language after describing a friend and colleague as a “paki”.

Campaign group Show Racism The Red Card have criticised Green for the comments, saying that he should know better.

Chief executive Ged Grebby said: “The use of the term ‘Paki’ is highly offensive and it is something that we at Show Racism the Red Card are trying to educate young people against. For the CEO of Rangers to use the term in any context is not helpful as it sends out the wrong message to young people.” (Scotsman)

Dons want to keep McGinn

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has vowed to do all he can to keep Niall McGinn.

Several English sides have been circling the Dons star, but the new boss is keen to keep him at Pittodrie.

“He’s someone I’m looking forward to working with,” McInnes said.

“I want him to see staying with us as progress because he’s done well and he’s improving as a player all the time.” (Daily Record)

Muirhead apology

Partick Thistle’s Aaron Muirhead has admitted that he “let everybody down”, after being shown a red card for headbutting Queen of the South’s Chris Higgins during the weekend’s Ramsden’s cup clash.

Muirhead lashed out after a number of Queens players got in his face and gloated following a saved penalty, but he says he has apologised for the incident.

“Yes, I was provoked but it doesn’t make what I did any more acceptable,” he said.

He added: “I’ve apologised to the boy and I’d like to take this chance to apologise to him again.” (The Sun)

Hearts hunt Humphrey

Hearts have joined the race to sign Motherwell winger Chris Humphrey.

The Edinburgh club join Hull, Rangers, Crystal Palace, and Derby County, and manager Gary Locke will be hoping that the restrictions on new signings will be lifted next month when the Jamaican international’s contract will be up. (The Sun)
