Conflicting reports on Celtic interest in Scott Allan

Two newspapers have released conflicting Monday exclusives regarding Celtic’s supposed interest in Hibernian midfielder Scott Allan.

The Sun states Celtic are ready to move with a £500k offer for the player who only has one year left on his deal, while the Glasgow Evening Times cites an unnamed source from within Parkhead who claims the rumours are wide of the mark.

The talented playmaker received a lot of praise for his play last season as the Easter Road club finished runners-up in the Scottish Championship and has drawn interest from Hibs’ fellow second-tier rivals Rangers in recent weeks. (The Sun/Evening Times)

Swansea City interested in Virgil van Dijk

Swansea have emerged as serious contenders to sign wantaway Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Welsh club join fellow Premier League sides Tottenham, Southampton, Norwich and Sunderland in pursuing the 23-year old, who stated his desire to move to the English top flight earlier this month.

It is believed Celtic will hold out for a fee of at least £8 million. (Daily Express)

Jens Jonsson linked with Rangers and Hearts

Hearts and Rangers are said to be interested in young Danish defender Jens Jonsson.

The 22-year old, who can also play in midfield, has been featuring for the Danish under-21 side at the ongoing European Championships and his play has attracted interest from two of Scotland’s biggest clubs.

With only one year remaining on his deal at Aarhus, it is thought the player could be available for a fee as low as £200k since he’s already stated his ambition to further his career elsewhere. (Evening Times)

Rangers to quicken pursuit of Danny Wilson

Rangers face stiff competition from clubs in England for former Hearts skipper Danny Wilson but he has been tipped to be a huge success if he returns to Ibrox for a second spell.

It is understood negotiations will intensify in the next two days as Rangers try to strike an agreement with the 23 year old, who came through the Murray Park youth system into the top team before moving to Liverpool for £2 million in 2010.

Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh, wanted by Celtic, has turned down the chance to join English Championship club Brighton, according to the player’s agent.

Russell Anderson rushed to hospital

Recently retired Aberdeen captain Russell Anderson was rushed to hospital yesterday after collapsing at his home.

The club have insisted the health scare is “minor” and that he was taken in under precautionary measures.

The 36-year old retired last month after playing more than 400 times for the North East club. (Daily Record)

Celtic transfer target fires Las Palmas into La Liga

Rumoured Celtic transfer target Sergio Araujo netted the decisive goal as Las Palmas booked their place in Spain’s top flight following an away goals victory over Real Zaragoza.

The striker, on loan from Boca Juniors, netted in the 84th minute of the play-off final to earn a 2-0 victory on the night, after a 3-1 defeat in the first leg away from home.

The Argentine scored 25 times in 43 appearances for the team from Gran Canaria during the 2014/15 season. Hoops boss Ronny Deila is said to have scouted the 23-year old in January and was impressed with the reports. (Inside Futbol)

Warburton appointed Rangers boss without meeting King

New Rangers manager Mark Warburton has revealed he did not hold any face-to-face discussions with Dave King before being appointed on Monday.

His only serious interaction with the club chairman and proposed major investor appears to have been hearing an interview given by the South African-based businessman after he was passed fit and proper to head up the Ibrox board. (The Scotsman)

Hanlon wants Liam Fontaine to stay with Hibs

Paul Hanlon is desperate for his trusty defensive partner Liam Fontaine to agree to stay on at Hibs.

The pair formed a strong alliance as Alan Stubbs’ two first-choice centre-backs last season.

Baraclough wants McDonald to remain at Motherwell

Motherwell boss Ian Baraclough is hopeful of persuading striker Scott McDonald to stay with the club for at least another year.

The Australian was instrumental in helping the Steelmen to stave off relegation to the second tier after signing as a free agent in January.
