Ross County players help fund supporters’ travel

The club have agreed to provide free buses for the trip to Edinburgh as a small group of Staggies fans attempt to drum up support for what has become known as “Dark Blue Saturday”.

But MacGregor says the coaches and playing staff are also making a financial contribution to the cost.

Derek Adams’ side need all the backing they can get at the moment, with just one point separating them from Partick Thistle in the relegation play-off position.

MacGregor said: “When I heard about the campaign, I decided, along with he board of directors, the club would pay the money for buses to the match against Hearts at Tynecastle. The management and players donated money to the cause as well, which I had never heard of before.

“It shows how much it means to Derek Adams and the team to get as many people to Edinburgh for the vital game as possible. The next five games are critical and it is quite a commitment from the players and coaches to dip into their own pockets to assist with the transport cost for supporters. The noise at Tynecastle, as it is an enclosed ground, will have an effect, that is for sure.

“I would hope we will have anywhere from 750 to 1,000 supporters at the game. In some of our better away day attendances we have had 300 to 400 and there will definitely be more come Saturday.”
