Caldwell scored twice for St Mirren in 15 appearances but agreed to terminate his contract with the managerless Buddies by mutual consent on Friday.

Before joining St Mirren his finest moment for Hibs was scoring a last-minute winner against rivals Hearts at Tynecastle, in only his second appearance for the Easter Road side.

He spent a period of time on loan at Alloa, making 12 appearances.

Along with Caldwell, Morton have signed Grant Adam until the end of the season, with the former Rangers and Cowdenbeath goalkeeper having already made two trialist appearances for Jim Duffy’s side.

Both players could make their debuts in the match against Stenhousemuir tomorrow.
