His 536ft Eclipse yacht was moored off Lochranza, Arran, after the brief voyage from the nearby Isle of Bute where the oil and metals tycoon had earlier been seen cycling.

He surprised residents of Rothesay late last week when he disembarked with bodyguards to cycle around the island.

He flew by private jet to Glasgow airport late last week and then made the transfer of about 30 miles to his yacht in the Firth of Clyde by private helicopter.

An onlooker said: “He’s having a good time and seems to be enjoying himself. He’s been very nice and calm - and very pleasant to everyone who speaks to him.

“The views are absolutely phenomenal and everyone here is so laid back and friendly so you can see why he enjoys coming here.”

He is expected to visit Kilnaughton Bay on the Isle of Islay.

The Eclipse was until recently the biggest yacht in the world and comes fitted with a cinema, submarines and hi-tech defences.
