Returning Jacobs confident ahead of trip to face Pars

The midfielder made his first start last week since recovering from injury, and is set to be  involved again as the Lions take on Dunfermline tomorrow.

Despite last week’s defeat at Greenock Morton, he reckons the First Division is the tightest league in Scotland – and the Livi players can be full of confidence heading to the third-placed side’s East End Park tomorrow.

He said: “It’s great to be back training and trying to help the team press on up the table. I’m finally fit and hopefully I’ll be able to stay fit.”

The Lions travel to Fife on the back of a narrow 2-1 loss at Cappielow. However, the second of two tough away fixtures in as many weeks is nothing to fear according to the midfielder.

Jacobs said: “Saturday’s another big game for the boys and we are still confident because we are playing some good football at the moment.

“The league is probably going to be the tightest in the country again. Anyone can get results. We just need to keep looking after ourselves and looking to put in good performances and there will be the chance to pick up points.

“On Saturday hopefully we can play well and do that.”

The Lions’ last trip to face the Pars ended in a 4-0 thumping, but they saw off Jim Jeffries’ men in a 2-1 win at Almondvale before Christmas.

Despite the loss Livi ran Morton close six days ago, and the defeat was only the West Lothian side’s second on league duty since mid-September.

That sort of form had put Livi on the verge of the top three sides gunning for promotion, and the loss in last week’s showdown was a tough one to take.

Jacobs said: “Last week’s  result was disappointing but I thought we played well.

“In the first ten or 15 minutes we didn’t play our best and conceded an early goal, but I thought we passed the ball well after that and deserved something out of the game.

“We conceded two sloppy goals which cost us the game. That, and not taking our  chances. Hopefully we can sort that.”
