Referee Craig Thomson hits road to Rio

REFEREE Craig Thomson is on course to book his place at World Cup 2014... just as Scotland saw any hopes of going to Brazil finally extinguished in Serbia.

The SFA whistler is one of 19 top referees in Europe who have been selected to attend Fifa’s second World Cup seminar in Zurich next month. Thomson – along with Scottish assistant referees Alasdair Ross and Derek Rose – will be put through their paces in Switzerland as Fifa narrows the list down from Europe to 12. The final list will be announced next month.
