'They are going to regret it for some time' - What Rangers boss Steven Gerrard had to say on Jordan Jones and George Edmundson

The duo have been suspended by the club after attending a house party in Glasgow where ten people were given fines when police broke up the gathering.

Rangers were quick to act following the breach which earned the praise of the Scottish Government.

Gerrard confirmed the players are on a short-term suspension and will be dealt with internally, while noting that Jones and Edmundson would regret their actions for “some time”.

“I think everyone at the football club is disappointed with the actions of the two players," he told RangersTV.

“I think it was important that the club took decisive action and were very quick to do that which was pleasing to see.

“The players know they have let themselves down, their families and badly let down their team-mates and supporters of the club.

“They will be punished internally and it will be dealt with internally.

“I think the important thing from my point of view is we draw a line under that.

“I don’t want to be sitting here and kick them even more. They are feeling really down at the moment. They are apologetic and remorseful. They are full of regret and I think they will regret it for quite some time.

"They’ve been suspended in the short-term and we have spoken to the players since the events and the next time we will speak to them is when they come off suspension after an isolation period.

“They’ve made a bad, bad error of judgement and as I have said I think they are going to regret it for some time. It is a building process for both of them now moving forward.”

Gerrard was further irritated that the players' actions, despite all the guidance and warnings, took away from another positive performance at the weekend and brought negative headlines.

He said: “The players at the weekend put in a fantastic performance and the headlines after that game should have been of positivity and praising individuals and the collective on the effort they gave in that game.

“Two players have taken the headlines and praise away from the squad and the media is littered with negativity now.”
