One from Josh Doig (Hibs), Lewis Ferguson (Aberdeen), Nathan Patterson (Rangers) and David Turnbull (Celtic) will be crowned the 20th winner of the prestigious title since its inception in season 2001-02.
Across the two decades there have been 16 different names on the trophy – with only two players winning the award on more than one occasion.
Originally open to any player who played in Scotland under the age of 23, the criteria was changed in 2019, restricting the award to players who are eligible for selection by the Scotland national under-21 football team.
Of all the previous winners, all but five either played for Rangers and Celtic, or went on to play for them at some point in their careers, but the club with most individual award winners is Hibs, with three different players collecting the award while at Easter Road.
Here is the complete list of all SFWA Young Player of the Year winners … how many can you name?

13. Derek Riordan - Hibs
The third Hibs player on the list - possibly fourth if Josh Doig wins this season's award. Riordan was the club's top scorer in a third-place Premiership finish with 23 goals in season 2004-05. Photo: SNS Group Alan Harvey

14. Craig Gordon - Hearts
Helped Hearts to the best defensive record outwith the Old Firm in a third-place finish in season 2003-04 to earn his first senior Scotland cap at the age of 21. Photo: SNS Group Roddy Scott

15. Zurab Khizanishvili - Dundee
The only foreigner to win the award prior to the rule change over Scotland U21 eligibility. The Georgian defender stood out in a Dundee side that finished sixth in the Premiership and lost the Scottish Cup final to Rangers, who signed him after that 2002-03 season. Photo: SNS Group 0141 221 3602
