TalkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan has claimed that Rangers and Celtic are the only two clubs with any “meaningfulness” in Scotland.

The Old Firm have dominated the upper echelons of the Scottish Premiership in recent years, and the last time that a side other than one of the two Glaswegian giants won the top flight title was back when Aberdeen lifted it in 1985.

Following Celtic’s defeat to Ross County on Sunday, Rangers need just seven points from their remaining fixtures to secure the trophy and prevent the Hoops from winning a historic tenth consecutive title this season, but Jordan has argued that success for the Gers will do little improve the reputation of Scottish football as a whole.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former Crystal Palace chairman said: “I don’t think it does anything to the league.

"There’s a question in the framework of this particular subject matter over whether it increases the credibility of the Scottish league. Well not really, no, because it’s a league that’s only got two teams in it that have any real meaningfulness about them – I’m sorry. The days of Aberdeen have gone.

"I’m glad to see Rangers back amongst it. I was sad to see their demise under the hands of other people.

"What it means for Gerrard is that he’s done what he was brought into do.

"It gives him the credibility that will then facilitate the next opportunities that come his way”.

Rangers could be crowned champions at Parkhead on March 21st if they can beat Livingston and St. Mirren in their next two fixtures and then take a point from next month’s Old Firm.
