All the latest news, transfer speculation and more from around the SPFL

It’s nearly here. It’s oh so close. It’s only just over a week away until the start of the Scottish Premiership season. Friendlies have been coming thick and fast for the 12 top-flight clubs as they make final preparations for the big kick-off which starts with a cracker at Pittodrie between Aberdeen and Rangers.

There may have been issues with Covid-19 testing this past week but these problems are better arising now to be sorted rather than the eve of the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

Edouard tipped to succeed in England

Ex-Celtic boss John Barnes has backed Odsonne Edouard to succeed at Arsenal if the opportunity presents itself.

He told BonusCodeBets: "Odsonne Edouard is the top striker in Scotland and if (Pierre Emerick) Aubameyang was to leave Arsenal, then they will be looking at Edouard’s situation. However, if Aubameyang stays, then I don’t see him coming.

“I think if you look at any of the top players in Scotland that they could come down to England and be a success. He’s doing very well at the moment and could make the step up to the Premier League if he gets a move that’s right for him and works for how he plays.”

Gerrard turns down offer

Steven Gerrard dismissed overtures from Bristol City over becoming their new manager.

According to Bristol Live, the Robins were keen on speaking to the Rangers boss.

Hearts keen on midfielder

Peterborough United have confirmed they have accepted an offer for Celtic and Rangers target Ivan Toney.

The striker has been in-demand and director of football Barry Fry has confirmed the offers has not arrived from Celtic.

It is believed promotion hopefuls Brentford are the side at the front of the queue.

Fry told the Dail Mail: "We have given a club permission to speak to Ivan because they met our valuation. It's not Celtic but, out of courtesy, I let Celtic know what had happened. They asked to be kept informed and we informed them. I haven't heard from them since then."

Roma goalkeeper interesting Celtic

Roma’s Robin Olsen is the latest goalkeeper to be linked with a move to Celtic.

The Swedish international arrived at the club in 2018 for around €12m as a replacement for Alisson who moved to Liverpool.

However, he struggled in his first year and was loaned to Cagliari for the past season.
