Ryan Jack wants to complete the double of ending barren years for both Rangers and Scotland

Having been part of the team which ended Scotland’s 22 years of failure to qualify for a major tournament finals, Ryan Jack now has his sights firmly fixed on halting Rangers’ longest ever period without a major trophy.

The midfielder was one of the stand-out performers for Steve Clarke’s squad as they edged past Serbia to book a place in next summer’s delayed Euro 2020 where a trip to face England at Wembley awaits.

But before he turns his thoughts to the challenge of facing the Auld Enemy next June, Jack’s primary focus will be on trying to wrest the Scottish Premiership crown away from Old Firm rivals Celtic in May.

Rangers have not won the title since 2011, the last time they lifted any major piece of domestic silverware, but have made a strong start to the current campaign in which they hope to maintain at least a nine-point lead at the top of the table this weekend by beating Jack’s former club Aberdeen at Ibrox on Sunday. The 28-year-old admits Scotland’s success in their Euro 2020 play-off has sharpened his appetite for glory with Rangers.

"It would be good to do both,” he said. “With the long wait for the nation to get back to a major tournament, it was long overdue. I’m just delighted to be a part of the group that has managed to achieve it. It’s a special group of players and we have a special sort of bond going in that group.

“That’s great but it’s back to club business now. It’s been a long wait at club level for Rangers as well but it’s a challenge that I am ready to meet.

"We came into pre-season this year and said ‘What can we achieve this season and what are our goals?’. “For us, it is about looking forward. We have started very strong and are on track for where we want to be.

“It’s so far, so good but there is nothing won yet. Come the end of the season is where the real challenges will be set and where we need to stand up.”
