Alfredo Morelos was “a very lucky boy” to get away with only a yellow card for a first-half challenge against Dundee United, according to ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd.

The Colombian was shown a yellow card by referee Steven McLean after catching Mark Connolly with a forearm to the face as the two challenged for an aerial ball.

Replays showed that Morelos, who was sent off five times in the 2018/19 season, led with his arm in the challenge and extended it out in order to make contact with Connolly.

Boyd, working as a pundit for Sky Sports, was in no doubt that the match official had made the incorrect decision.

He said: “It's a red card all day long. He’s a very lucky boy.

“If he catches him initially you can say OK, but you can see he extends his arm out.

“It’s a ridiculous challenge. Morelos and Rangers got away with one there.”
