Rangers will be without James Tavernier for a “bit longer”.

Steven Gerrard provided an injury update ahead of the club’s Premiership clash with St Mirren.

The league leaders can take another step towards the title on Saturday at Ibrox with three points.

A win would mean Celtic would have to defeat Dundee United on Sunday at Tannadice to prevent confirmation of the Premiership heading to Govan.

Rangers will, however, be without Tavernier, Kemar Roofe and Ryan Jack for the clash with the Buddies.

There is good news for Leon Balogun who missed the midweek win over Livingston.

“Balogun returns to the squad,” Gerrard said.

"Roofe and Jack are on-course to return to training after the weekend, Tavernier will be a bit longer.”

Rangers have been without Tavernier and Roofe since both limped out of the Europa League last-32 first-leg tie with Royal Antwerp, while Jack missed the Livi clash with a calf issue.
