Form

Rangers: WWDWWWWW (1st)

St Johnstone: WDWDDDLL (8th)

St Johnstone are one of the form teams in the Scottish Premiership – eclipsed only by the headline-grabbing results of Livingston and Steven Gerrard’s side over the past six games.

Qualifying for the Betfred Cup final with a dazzling display against an insipid Hibs team has been a fillip to Callum Davidson’s Perth team who are now beginning to pick up results their early season showings merited, but couldn’t produce.

Rangers’ juggernaut continues unabated and despite not performing at optimum levels in Lanarkshire late last month Steven Gerrard’s side have won 5-0 in a complete performance against Ross County and followed up with a strong win at Easter Road against Hibs to remain undefeated this league season.

Team news

Kemar Roofe is back in contention for Rangers, and could be called upon following confirmation of Alfredo Morelos’ suspension. The 11-goal striker will miss three games against St Johnstone, Hamilton and Kilmarnock over the coming weeks, as punishment for his stamp clash with Ryan Porteous. Other alternatives to take the Colombian’s place include Jermain Defoe and Cedric Itten.

Scott Arfield remains out but Scott Wright trained with his new team-mates on Tuesday just hours after completing his move from Aberdeen and Rangers will wait for COVID-19 tests on fellow new signing Jack Simpson beofre deciding when the English defender can play a part.

Glenn Middleton will be ineligible for St Johnstone who will have new signing Charlie Gilmour in the squad.

Rangers defeated the Perth Saints 3-0 in both meetings this season – with Joe Aribo impressive in both encounters.

There is caution for Steven Gerrard’s side though as only a year ago Saints took points off Rangers with a late Stevie May equaliser finishing the scoring at 2-2 in Perth. The last win for the Saints was 3-1 at Ibrox in December 2017.

Overall Rangers have beaten the Perth side 118 times in 152 meetings. They have an overall goal difference of 265 and win percentage of 77.5%.
