The key objective for manager Steven Gerrard is not to lose any of his main men. James Tavernier, Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara and Alfredo Morelos all have their admirers on the continent, but that quartet have been integral to Rangers’ rampant run in the Premiership and with the latter stages of the Europa League to contest as well, only a ridiculous bid would tempt the Ibrox hierarchy to sell them.
With the squad in such good shape, Gerrard has not needed to dip immediately into the market. Aberdeen forward Scott Wright and Bournemouth defender Jack Simpson have signed pre-contract agreements and will arrive next summer. While Gerrard would be delighted to have them in now, he is also content to wait. Neither player would walk into his starting XI and he is mindful that their current clubs would need recompense to allow an immediate departure.

Hide AdWingers Jordan Jones and Glenn Middleton have been loaned to Sunderland and St Johnstone respectively, while exciting prospect Kai Kennedy penned a new deal and was then farmed out to Raith Rovers. It would not be a surprise if Greg Stewart and George Edmundson, who have tasted so little action of late, also follow them out the exit door on loan, although with Nikola Katic still injured, Edmundson is more likely required to remain as back up.
The expectation is that this will be a serene transfer-deadline day at Ibrox. When all is going so well, that is exactly what you are looking for.
