However, the governing body released a statement saying they would wait until Tuesday and a meeting of all 55 member associations to discuss what to do about the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Rangers then confirmed the match would be going ahead as planned with a short statement on Twitter.

It read: “#RangersFC can confirm that tonight’s @EuropaLeague match against @bayer04_en will go ahead as planned in front of our Ibrox crowd.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding as everyone within the football community and beyond deals with this ever changing situation.”

At present, domestic, European and international competitions – including the Champions League and Euro 2020 – are under threat as governments look to stop the virus spreading throughout Europe.

It has been reported that all English football games will take place behind closed doors from next week, while Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she would advise that events with over 500 people in attendance be cancelled.

Rangers will square off against Leverkusen for a place in the last eight of the Europa League.

The game will kick-off at 8pm.
