Rangers reveal Alfredo Morelos stance as clubs continue to court Colombian right down to the wire

Alfredo Morelos continues to make headline news on the final day of the extended summer 2020 transfer window, just as he has done since it formally opened in Scotland back on 14 July.

It has emerged that Rangers rejected a loan offer of around £2 million, with an option to buy, for the Colombian international striker from a Serie A club over the weekend.

Morelos was previously linked with both Fiorentina and AC Milan, although the latest interest is thought to have come from Torino.

Rangers turned down a bid of £16 million from Lille for Morelos in August, the Ibrox club valuing the 24-year-old at closer to £20 million.

While Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has accepted he may not be able to stand in the way of any sale of Morelos if the asking price was met, The Scotsman understands the club’s board are standing firm in their determination not to let the player go for any cut-price deal even at this late stage of the window.

Morelos, who is under contract at Rangers until 2023, initially appeared disgruntled when Lille’s interest was rebuffed with Gerrard observing that the player’s ‘head had been turned’.

But he has returned to Gerrard’s starting line-up in recent weeks with the former Liverpool and England captain praising his attitude and stating that Morelos was again working with ‘a smile on his face’ in training.

Rangers have added to their striking options with the signings of Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten this summer but it’s clear Morelos will still be Gerrard's first choice if he stays.
