The right-sided defender has been with the Ibrox club for almost a decade, joining as a 10-year-old and captained the club’s under-17s to the Glasgow Cup in 2018 and then lifted the Scottish Youth Cup last year following a 3-2 win over Celtic at Hampden.

Finlayson moved to Rangers’ strategic partner club in America’s USL Championship Orange County SC earlier this year as one of three partnership loans, but has returned to Scotland to sign for Jim Goodwin in Paisley.

The season-long loan includes an option to buy the defender who was offered the chance to train with Northern Ireland’s under-21 squad after impressing with Stevie Frail’s under-19s last year.

St Mirren have already seen club captain Kyle Magennis leave the club today. The midfielder left the club to sign up with former Buddies boss Jack Ross at Hibernian on a five-year contract.
