The statistics show the right-back’s importance to Rangers’ playing style and pundit Neil McCann says the club must do what they can to hang onto their team leader.

Shortly after Roofe’s opener against Ross County he said: “If a Premier League team down the road saw those numbers and thought ‘we have money burning here’ they might just test Rangers’ resolve.

“Rangers have to get him tied down and extend his contract.”

McCann, speaking on BBC Sportsound, added: “It’s OK saying he is going nowhere – but he’s so pivotal to this Rangers team. If he went out they’d go to Nathan Patterson – but he doesn’t offer the same type.

“You talk about confidence and you see a player thriving as captain in a team that is just functioning brilliantly.

"His return is just unbelievable.”
