Rangers loan ex-Middlesbrough winger Jordan Jones to Sunderland for Black Cats' League One promotion push
The Northern Ireland international, once of Middlesbrough, has returned to the north-east of England, joining Lee Johnson’s side for a promotion push in skybet League One.
Jones signed for Rangers on a four-year pre-contract deal in January 2019 and then scored against his future employers in a 2-1 win for Kilmarnock, who brought the winger north.

Hide AdInitially Jones was in and around the first-team picture, making nine appearances upon his arrival at Ibrox, but he fell out of favour following a late and petulant red card in the final throes of a 2-0 Old Firm defeat at Celtic Park.
He failed to re-establish himself after suspension and only featured five more times last season.
Steven Gerrard restored the 26-year-old to his side this season, bringing the winger in from the cold for a starring role and a goal in a 5-1 win at Motherwell, but Jones soon found his chances curtailed by suspension again. The Northern Irishman, and defender George Edmundson were suspended for seven games by the Scottish Football Association for breaching covid-19 protocols by attending a house party and also disciplined by the Ibrox club.
The pair have not featured since their indiscretion, which also meant Jones was forced to quarantine and miss his country’s crucial Euro 2020 play-off qualifier against Slovakia. More recently Steven Gerrard has said the winger had been sidelined by a minor hamstring complaint but a Wearside medical set for today has not halted the loan move which has now completed.
