Rangers centre-back Filip Helander will miss Sweden’s friendly match with Denmark on Wednesday due to new Covid-19 restrictions.

Anyone travelling from Denmark will have to quarantine for 14 days. Footballers are no longer exempt after a new strain of the coronavirus was discovered in the Scandinavian nation.

Helander is still expected to join up with his Swedish team-mates for the Nations League double-header, starting with a home clash against Croatia on Saturday followed by a trip to France the following Tuesday.

Sweden sit bottom of League A Group 3 having lost all four games thus far, including a 2-0 defeat to Portugal in September, which is the only match Helander has played for his country this season.

Andreas Granqvist’s men did successfully qualify for Euro 2020 last year, finishing second and gaining automatic entry into the summer tournament.

Helander has made 10 league appearances for Rangers so far this term as Steven Gerrard’s side lead the Scottish Premiership by nine points.
