Rangers deny injury fears over captain James Tavernier ahead of Europa League knock-out in Antwerp

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has dismissed talk of an injury re-shuffle after branding reports of an injury to James Tavernier as “fake news”.

The Ibrox captain has been on inspired form this season scoring 17 goals from right-back – including five in Europe – but on Wednesday morning the Scottish Daily Mail reported Rangers talisman had been injured in training ahead of the last-32 match with Royal Antwerp in the UEFA Europa League.

But speaking ahead of the team heading to Belgium for the first leg tie, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said: “We have seen recent rumours that James is carrying a niggle which is fake news - there is nothing in that.”

Rangers will however be able to welcome back suspended domestic duo Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe for the game against the Belgians who have also had their injury woes and will be missing suspended winger Lamel Ze.
