The January signing from Aberdeen was one of several changes made by Steven Gerrard in the Rangers line-up for the quarter final, after scoring in the midweek draw with the Perth side.

However the manager has reverted to a familiar line-up for the visit of Callum Davidson’s side to Ibrox in the competition which is now the club priority after the SPFL Premiership league title was sealed last month.

But in missing out, Wright has been offered much support on social media from the club fans who are looking for a second piece of silverware to end the season.

They face the only other Scottish Premiership side to take a trophy this season in Betfred Cup winners St Johnstone who are eyeing a return to Hampden themselves.

Paul Munro: “Wright can feel hard done by after mid-week! Hagi lucky to get the nod for me.”

Kenny Martin: “Got to feel sorry for Wright hasn't put a foot wrong, mind you neither has Hagi.”

Steven Penman: “Hagi is a good choice. Think they will sit in so somebody to open up the defence is good.”

Bob Rankin: “Why can Wright no get a start before Hagi, he's faster works harder more of a threat and him in Kent would be more dangerous wae their speed.”

@RFC1872II: ”Just the front three with like 60 goals and assists this year.”

@sayersy1872: “I hate when Aribo plays in the middle of the park! Much better out on the right.”

@rallanwriting: “Did you not see Aribo against Celtic? Why would he drop a mainstay of an unbeaten team? Amazing that people question the decisions of Sir Steven. Wright looks good but doesn’t deserve a start ahead of Aribo who tortured Laxalt last week.

@cjpatrick1872: “This team will beat them easily we’ve got the missing pieces we lacked on Wednesday.”

Scott Grant: “We really need to keep our foot on the gas tonight in till the final minute if we don’t we can kiss the cup goodbye.”
