Rangers’ return match in Germany will be played in front of empty stadium

Rangers are set to have their second-leg encounter in the Europa League with Bayer Leverkusen played behind closed doors due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

The Bundesliga side announced the decision through a statement on their Twitter page, saying the same would be happening for an upcoming league game.

The game at Ibrox on Thursday will go ahead in front of a capacity crowd as planned.

Leverkusen said: “Our upcoming matches vs. Werder Bremen and the home leg vs. Rangers FC are set to be played behind closed doors.

“At the moment, Thursday’s away match in Glasgow will have no such restrictions.

"The fan plane to Glasgow can also take off with the fans on board as planned."

Reported cases of the coronavirus in Germany continue to grow with 1,458 at the time of writing.
