Steven Gerrard’s men hold a 16-point lead over rivals Celtic going into Christmas, albeit their rivals have three games in hand.

Unsurprisingly, Rangers are huge odds-on favourites to win their 55th title such has been their dominance this season.

Not only do they have a big lead, they are yet to be defeated in the league, possessing the best defence and attack.

At the current rate, Rangers are not only set to prevent Celtic from reaching ten leagues won in a row, but they are on course to set club and Scottish top-flight records.

Despite the club’s success in Scotland, they have never reached the 100-point mark in the top tier, the closest they came was in the 2002/03 campaign when both them and Celtic accrued 97 points, the Ibrox side winning the league on goal difference.

Contrast that with their rivals who have managed to win more than 100 points on two occasions. The first was under Martin O’Neill in 2001/02, losing just once to put up 103 points on the board.

The second time came in Brendan Rodgers’ first season in charge.

Celtic went the 2016/17 season undefeated, winning 34 of 38 matches to record 106 points – the highest ever top-flight tally.

At the current rate, Rangers are set to equal that total having dropped points in just two games.

That record is set to be tested in the coming weeks with the team Hibs, in-form St Mirren, Celtic and Aberdeen in the next four fixtures.

A key part of Rangers’ success has been their defence with just five goals conceded in 19 matches.

They are on course to set a new Scottish top-flight record for fewest goals conceded.

Back in 1902/03 Dundee conceded just 12 goals. However, that came across a 22-game campaign.

Celtic gave up 14 goals in a 38-game season in 1913/14.

The team will be likely to better the 19 goals they conceded in 1989/90 or the 15 shipped across 18 games in 1897/98.
