The 21-year-old left Fir Park last summer, signing for Rangers, after a fine second half of the 2018/19 campaign. He spent part of last season on loan to English side Rotherham United.

Hastie becomes Motherwell’s sixth signing of the summer.

He told the club’s website: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back. I’ve been with Motherwell since I was nine years old. A year away has helped me grow even more as a player, but it’s also made me appreciate what the club does for me to help me develop.

“I’m fit and ready to go. I want to pick up where we left off just over a year ago and make an impact on the team scoring goals.”

Manager Stephen Robinson expressed his delight at adding to his attacking arsenal.

“We need someone strong and direct in the wide areas,” he said. “Jake provides us with that. We know exactly what he’s capable of and we are looking forward to working with him again.”

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson said: “Jake needs to keep playing first team football and continue his development. We wanted that learning to come in the Scottish Premiership this season.

“Our discussions with Motherwell have been positive and we share the same goal to make this loan experience a strong one.”
