The midfielder became the youngest professional player in US history two years ago when he was signed by Orange County SC at the age of 14 years, four months and 29 days.

The USL Championship outfit are currently in partnership with Rangers and, according to The Athletic, the 15-year-old prospect will make the switch to Ibrox at the end of the current campaign.

Jacobs has already featured for Rangers Under-16s having travelled with the club to Doha last year to play in the Alkass International Cup. He was also one of three players to travel to Glasgow for a training stint in December 2019.

Speaking of his involvement in the Alkass tournament, arguably the most prestigious U16 competition in the world, Orange County President of Soccer Operations Oliver Wyss said: “Francis definitely made the most of this incredible opportunity.

“To go out there and do so well in a world class youth tournament playing an age group up, exceeded all of our expectations. It shows that our professional development structure is working and paying dividends.

"He contributed and the feedback we got from the coaches was very positive. The biggest compliment of all is that he started [four] of the games. He was very professional and fit in with their talented team like he was already there for a long time.”

Jacobs, who stands at almost six feet tall, has already played twice for Orange County's first team in the USL Championship, debuting as a substitute in September before making his first start a month later against Las Vegas Lights.
