Rangers chances of winning the Europa League dampened by bookies

Rangers were handed a tough draw in today’s Europa League draw.

Steven Gerrard’s side’s reward for defeating Braga 4-2 on aggregate in the round of 32 is a tie against Bayer Leverkusen.

The German side sit fifth in the Bundesliga, five points off the top, and possess the highly-rated Kai Havertz amongst their ranks.

According to the bookies Rangers chances have been dented having missed out on possible ties such as Celtic’s conquerors Copenhagen, Turkey’s Istanbul Basaksehir and Austrian side LASK.

Ahead of the draw PitchInvasion had the Ibrox side at 40/1 outsiders to claim glory in Gdansk. That has now drifted to 50/1 following the draw.

Leverkusen overcame Porto, who topped Rangers’ group, in the last-32 and are strong odds-on favourites to reach the quarter-finals with the Govan outfit 3/1 to win the tie.

Gerrard’s side have, however, proved tough to crack in Europe over the past two seasons. Across the team’s last 30 matches in the Europa League they have lost just three times.

Manchester United and Inter Milan are joint-favourites.
