Rangers boss eyes Glen Kamara and ELEVEN other players for new deals

Steven Gerrard believes he has 12 players who deserve new contracts at Rangers as he again repeated his desire for midfielder Glen Kamara to be tied down on an improved deal as a priority.

Kamara’s exceptional form this season has heightened the Finnish international’s profile amid potential interest in the 24-year-old from clubs in England.

Defender Connor Goldson, the two-goal hero of Rangers’ Old Firm victory at Celtic Park last Saturday, has also been the subject of speculation over a new deal.

Gerrard is more relaxed about Goldson’s situation but admits he would ideally like to extend and improve the contracts of the core of his first team squad.

“Connor is on a good contract as we speak, there is certainly no rush on that one,” said Gerrard.

“I can name probably a dozen players that, in the back of my mind, I am certainly thinking about in terms of extensions and different contracts. I don’t think there is any rush at the moment, there is nobody whose time is running out that we are desperate to chase to put pen-to-paper.

“I think the message to all the players is to win football games and reward the club come the end of the season, and we will certainly look after those individuals.”

On Kamara specifically, Gerrard confirmed he would like talks on a new deal to be accelerated.

“If it was my decision, the answer would be yes,” he said. “I've made my feelings known to Ross [Wilson, sporting director] and the board on that situation.

“Glen has been fantastic for me since day one. He's grown and he's evolved. He's improved and he's listened.

“There were different areas of his game that we felt we could shape and help him become a better player.

“But he is the one who has really gone out and worked on his game both in and out of possession.

“He's in a fantastic place and is playing with confidence.

“He was superb at the weekend but for me he has been really consistent for much longer than that.

“We want Glen around us for as long as possible and everyone knows my feelings on that situation.”
