Rangers await specialists' injury news on Ryan Jack and Euro 2020 hopes

The Tartan Army will not be sweating over Ryan Jack’s involvement in this summer’s European Championships, Steven Gerrard hopes.

The Rangers manager is still awaiting feedback from specialists on the midfielder’s calf problem which surfaced against Dundee United in February, following a knee injury lay-off earlier in the season.

Jack had a scan in London last week and the Ibrox medical team expect to learn more of the results this weekend – but, while remaining cautious ahead of the feedback, Gerrard says the current outlook is hopeful.

“There is a zoom call with the specialists [on Friday afternoon] for an update on Ryan’s situation. The news will be what we can do with him when he gets back and the next steps on his rehabilitation but we are doing everything we can to get him back as quickly as we can.

“Obviously we need to leave it to the experts, but hopefully next time I speak I will have a positive update – that's what we are all looking for.”

Jack sat out the most recent Scotland World Cup qualifiers and hasn’t featured for Rangers in six weeks, but has been a regular for Steve Clarke since the national team boss took over and helped secure qualification to this summer’s tournament.

Asked about the injury’s impact on his midfielder’s Euro2020 prospects, Gerrard added: “I'm not the expert in this situation – I just listen and then decide what is the next best thing to do for Ryan. I think where we sit now we don't have to worry or panic, unless we are told something different. I think everything is OK.”
