Gerrard spent most of his playing career at Anfield, making more than 500 appearances for the Merseyside club over 17 years and captaining them to Champions League glory in Istanbul in 2005.

He also lifted the UEFA Cup with Liverpool in 2001, and won two FA Cups and three League Cups on the domestic front.

The Premier League title eluded him as a player, however, he has now won the first league title of his career, and his first silverware as manager, after guiding Rangers to a first title win in 10 years.

Gerrard has led Rangers to 20 victories and four draws in an unbeaten campaign, and the Ibrox side were confirmed as Scottish champions after Celtic failed to beat Dundee United at Tannadice this afternoon.

Liverpool tweeted: “Congratulations from all of us at #LFC to Steven Gerrard and his team on winning the Scottish Premier League title.”
