Reward for information on Rangers fan bottle attack

A £1,000 reward has been put up for information about an incident in which a young Rangers fan was hit with a bottle before Sunday’s Old Firm game.

Kieran Duffy was on a family outing to the game at Hampden in Glasgow when his bus was attacked by a group of fans, leaving him in hospital.

His father Robert condemned the “coward” who threw a glass beer bottle in through the side door of their supporters’ bus when it was sitting in traffic on Cathcart Road, in the Mount Florida area, on the way to the match.

Despite a high-profile media appeal for information, police say they have received no calls.

Police Scotland said a £1,000 reward for information had been offered by a local businessman.

DI Thom McKean, of Greater Glasgow CID, said: “A local businessman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was so appalled by what had happened, that he approached police to offer a reward of £1000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

“This comes following our appeal yesterday which unfortunately, despite the significant coverage both in the media and online, no calls have been received by Police Scotland offering any information about the incident or those responsible.

“We are of course checking CCTV and carrying out enquiries into the attack on Kieran and would encourage anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem to them, to come forward.

“Someone knows who did this and should be not be misguided by loyalty. Contact police – just imagine if this was your own child or someone you know. The same would apply to the man who threw the bottle – own up and contact police as it is only a matter of time before you are traced.”

Meanwhile, a fund set up to raise money for Kieran has reached £3,800 - just over £1,000 shy of the £5,000 target.
