Clubs who currently hold Scottish Football League memberships will be subsumed into a unified 42-club league later this month after the new body was voted through by the SFL this week.

A rulebook for the new league will come into being on June 27, the original draft of which would not have permitted Rangers to field trialists.

However, an amendment will now allow Rangers to field up to two unregistered players for any given match.

Rangers intend to field new signings Nicky Law, Cammy Bell, Arnold Peralta, Nicky Clark and Jon Daly as triallists before the club’s transfer embargo ends on September 1.

All five players will be able to play a maximum of three SPL games before the embargo is lifted.

Clubs in the top flight will not be able to field trialists in the same manner, however.
