Rangers takeover: Sandy Jardine warns of reprisals

SANDY Jardine last night warned Rangers supporters are ready to co-ordinate a full scale protest at their club’s treatment by rivals as well as the Scottish FA and Scottish Premier League during the administration saga.

Ibrox legend Jardine refused to rule out a fans’ boycott of certain clubs’ grounds if a committee formed by Rangers through the club’s Fighting Fund determines they have been treated unfairly by them.

A meeting will be hosted tomorrow to discuss the options and Jardine said: “It’s the first time I have ever seen supporters so angry, but it’s also the first time we’ve had such unity. We will have a committee with a mandate to co-ordinate protests. Everybody has had enough of being kicked while we are down. It’s time we fought back, but we want to do it in a proper manner.

“I won’t speculate on what we might do, but everything is on the table to be discussed and we’ll have a consensus as a united body going forward.”

Jardine joined former Ibrox manager Walter Smith in urging fans to sign up for the “1872 Sponsored Walk” that takes place at Ibrox next month and will help boost the Fighting Fund further.

Fans who wish to register for the walk – which will be one mile and 872 yards long – can log on to www.rangers.co.uk and download an application form. There are 1,872 places available for the event that kicks off at noon on Sunday, 20 May, and fans must register by Wednesday, 16 May with a suggested minimum donation of £100 to take part.
